INTERVIEW WITH JUAN MANUEL CISNEROS, COMPOSER OF THE PREMIERE WORK OF THE NEXT CONCERT IN MARCH
Dear Public:
One of the attractions of the next Iberian Sinfonietta concert, and of any concert, is that there will be an absolute premiere. It is something that speaks of a special occasion and all the previous work, conversations, agreements; In short, giving importance to being part of something. That something is the program that our orchestra will offer you next Saturday, March 18 at 7:00 p.m. , where the premiere of Dance, for string orchestra, by composer Juan Manuel Cisneros will take place.
We spoke with this young composer about the work he has created and that we can enjoy at the Peace Palace in Fuengirola.
How did this premiere come about?
The premiere is produced thanks to the collaboration between the Association of Composers and Performers of Malaga (ACIM) and the Iberian Sinfonietta orchestra. ACIM proposed a call for works for this training and I thought it would be interesting to propose a piece, with the good fortune that it was selected for the premiere.
Tell us about the work
It is a piece whose language has clear points of contact with tradition, especially with languages from the first half of the 20th century (some references to Bartók or Ravel) but from a personal perspective. Its title, Dance, tries to synthesize the essential character of the piece, whose motor and energy are frequently subject to a regular five-beat pulsation, with its characteristic sway, although from time to time the accentuation tries to blur that regularity. Formally, it is a ternary structure, with a more serene episode in the center. In some more rhythmic passages I try to take advantage of the possibilities of open strings to achieve more brightness and energy.
The work, in your repertoire, what place will it occupy?
It is a piece in which elements that I have used a few years ago dialogue with more recent materials, especially those that have to do with a greater approach to tonality, although filtered by the modality or harmonies of greater complexity. Therefore it is a work of synthesis, where I try to create a coherent discourse with well-differentiated elements.
What do you think of the Iberian Sinfonietta project and the work of Juan Paulo Gómez?
I have been very positively surprised by Juan Paulo Gómez 's commitment to new creation and in general the orchestra's commitment to more daring repertoires, because it is not common in this type of formations. On the other hand, just keeping an orchestra alive is already a challenge, so guiding it with a conscious artistic project that goes beyond standardized programming is almost a luxury.
What musical moment are you in?
Usually, I'm always in several facets at the same time. I collaborate as a pianist and harpsichordist in several groups and I dedicate myself a lot to music where improvisation plays a central role. Currently, I am interested in developing the compositional activity more, to which I return regularly from time to time. I have almost always been a performer of my own music, so this time, just sitting down and listening is going to be very enriching.
Something that remains in our minds
Simply, thank you once again for the work of Juan Paulo Gómez and Iberian Sinfonietta who bet on newly created music with a great wealth of aesthetic proposals in each program.
Not to miss it...
