Julia Baena

Born in Malaga, the city where she began her musical studies, she studied cello at the “Manuel Castillo” Superior Conservatory of Music in Seville, under the tutorship of Israel Fausto Martínez. Subsequently, he moved to Germany to complete a Master's Degree in Performance at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Mannheim with professors Michael Flaksman and Jelena Ocic.

Granted for several academic years by the Academy of Orchestral Studies of the Barenboim-Said Foundation, she has received advice and master classes from María de Macedo, Gautier Capuçon, Elena Cheah, Julian Steckel, Lluís Claret, Mikayel Hakhnazaryan, Michal Dmochowski, Paolo Beschi, Ángel Luis Quintana, Aldo Mata and Beatriz Blanco, among others.

He has been part of numerous young groups and orchestras such as the Andalusian Youth Orchestra, the National Youth Orchestra of Spain, the Young Instrumental Academy of the City of Granada Orchestra or the Young Baroque Orchestra of Andalusia, and a reserve member of the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester, under the direction of great masters such as Michael Thomas, Arturo Tamayo, Pedro Halffter, Víctor Pablo Pérez, Salvador Mas and Manuel Hernández Silva. During the 2014-2015 season he was an academic at the Freiburg Philharmonisches Orchester and has collaborated with different professional orchestras such as the Malaga Philharmonic Orchestra or the Heidelberg Philharmonisches Orchester.

She is currently a cello teacher at the “Andrés de Vandelvira” Higher Conservatory of Music in Jaén.
