Angel Couple Francisco

Flautist from Malaga awarded with the First Prize "Young Musician of the Year 2020 in the United Kingdom" in Huddersfield. He has received different awards in competitions, as well as the 'Specially Commended' award by the judges in the prestigious TWIMC 2022 competition.

He began playing the flute at the age of seven in Málaga with Javier Contreras, continued with María José Sánchez at the Málaga Conservatory of Music and later moved to Ireland to continue his training. There he was awarded a full scholarship to study for a Bachelor of Music at the Royal Irish Academy of Music with Bill Dowdall and Patricia Morris. After two years in Dublin, he moved to the United Kingdom to continue with the Master of Flute Performance at the Royal Northern College of Music with Kevin Gowland and Jenny Hutchinson, having also been a student of Susan Milan, Laura Jellicoe and Cormac Henry. He has complemented his training with masterclasses from Sir James Galway, William Bennett, Andrea Oliva, Adam Walker, Lorna McGhee and Vicens Prats.

He made his debut as a soloist in Ireland at Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin, performing WA Mozart's Flute Concerto in G Major with the Dublin Symphony Orchestra as part of its main season. In 2017, The Trinity Orchestra Dublin invited him to play Karl Reinecke's Concerto for Flute and Orchestra in D Major as soloist. His UK solo debut was at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester performing JS Bach's Suite No. 2 with The Hallé Orchestra. The recording of that concert was used to encourage music-making in England during the 2020 pandemic.

Ángel has recorded for RTE One, Near FM, RTVE and collaborated with the Instituto Cervantes in Dublin, the Southport Musical Society, the Alicante World Orchestra Festival, the Esker Festival in Ireland, the Whitworth Gallery, the National Gallery of Ireland and the Chinese New Year Festival 2020 in the United Kingdom.

During his career he has collaborated with numerous orchestras, including the BBC Philharmonic, The Hallé Orchestra, Manchester Camerata, Piccadilly Symphony Orchestra, Ceuta International Symphony Orchestra, the YMSO UK and the Jopma. Additionally, he has worked with distinguished directors such as Elim Chan, Andrew Gourlay, Gerhard Markson, Kenneth Montgomery, Andrew Mogrelia, Martin André and Sir Mark Elder.

He currently combines teaching with his position as flute and piccolo at the Northern Film Orchestra in Manchester as well as collaborating with the Iberian Sinfonietta in Malaga.
